Sometimes the questions you ask in a story are more important than the answers, and sometimes a character's actions are neither right nor wrong. In this video, I want to take a look at the value of ambiguity in storytelling, and some examples of where it's been done well.

Joel allowing the death of Ellie is a zillion times more evil than not providing a cure.
Sit
Ok too tired from some consumption closer to your homeland...I’ve had an 18 yr McAllen scotch
I just realize the ending of Last of Us Part 1 is technically the opposite of Spider-Man PS4.
@JangoGod True. But again, its just a minor thing. If it gets your jimmies up, then perhaps you need to steel yourself more.
It's thought that the reason for the increase in allergies and other autoimmune disorders is due to the lack of exposure to dirt and microbes as children because of an increase in cleanliness and less time spent outside.
I just watched blade runner, what was that rape seen all about, was that supposed to be romantic or something?
Thank you!
I suppose when Joel started shooting up the place, negotiations and compromise flew out of the window. Did they even try taking a saliva sample instead of her whole brain? Seem like the fireflies had a lot riding on the plan of killing the only immune person. While they could have kept her alive and done a lot more testing and sampling. Joel doesn't kill everyone - fireflies get a better understanding of the cure - ellie doesn't;t need to die. WIN WIN WIN.
I liked his game....*Spoilers*....its makes his choice even more important.....he ends up having deal with the consequences of his actions...those consequences cost him, his relationship with Ellie and ultimately cost him his life. In the last time you see Joel and Ellie together (night before his death) and all the crap is out and the damage is done.....he turn to her ands says if I could go back I would do it all again.....it shows that Ellie's life was more important to him than anything.....even if he loses out on her life himself (at this point he didn't know he was going to die.....just that he ruined everything with Ellie) When he died I think he knew this was one of the consequences he had to deal with and for that he would have gladly accepted it.
@3:02 this is an excellent video, but I have to point out that you don't find out that Ellie is immune and that the fireflies can make a cure at the climax of the game. Getting Ellie to the fireflies due to her immunity is the setup and driving force for the story
Nut alergy is still unheard of here in vietnam
This is why I often question your intelligence Drinker... How you can even suggest that Joel didn’t do anything wrong baffles me. He did EVERYTHING wrong, because he’s a straight white male, obvs...
People murdering children for the slim hope of an unlikely "vaccine" for a fungus make the morality of the situation pretty clear to me. Even assuming it was possible, they certainly aren't "good" either, and Joel certainly isn't any worse than they are. Murdering murderers to save a child's life doesn't really make him the bad guy.
Just so you know peanuts are not nuts there are a member of the legume family!
Thought and effort in urinalysis?.........oh wait
Aaaaand this is why japanese games. Gay characters? They're there, integrated into the story normally.
GO WOKE GO BROKE MAN ITS SAD HOW THEY ARE DESTROYING EVERYTHING BRO CHEERS DRINKER I LOVE UR VIDEOS VERY MUCH TY 👍🏻🥃Cognac on the rocks is the where I go cheers mate
Wait.. The last of us 2 didn't come out yet...
Great video man! Your content is always so well written and delivered with enough examples and precision in what you’re attempting to clarify for the audience that I’m always left feeling so thankful I watched your content. You joke about the dumb woke culture because let’s face it, it’s easy to do and it deserves all the ridicule it gets, but that is never the core of your content. It’s the fundamentals! You get underneath things to the core of what makes something work or fail. We can see you tapping into something deeper, and we appreciate you for your eloquence Mr. Drinker! 😁👍
Funnily enough peanuts have a dangerous fungus too
Pesticides, soft shell nuts like peanuts soak the pesticides easily
The Last of Us is easily one of the best games I have ever played. I hope they make another great game in that universe one day.
Real Men would act like Joel, todays man would put her on hormone thearapy..
Hey what do you think of the planet of the apes trilogy? Rise, Dawn and War.
The lack of emotional maturity all of you have LOL
"To be fair, you have to have a high -IQ- emotional maturity to understand TLOU2"
How do you make a video about ambiguity without mentioning The Sopranos?
Lets be real for a sec no way the fireflies could produce a cure from her the tech they had was probably junk so they would have killed the one known imune person the best way for her to spread the imunity would have been to have kids
TLOU ended, no sequel. Just a brilliant AF stand alone game with two of the best main characters in any game ever. That's my version of history and I'm sticking with it!
why is Ellie NOT made aware of her spectacularly rare, useful, species-saving ability? you know, i bet they could really learn a whole buncha stuff if they simply sat her down and STUDIED her. i'm sure that's explained, at _great_ length, in that game / interactive movie.
so in _Last of Us,_ everyone's at constant risk of inhaling this Zombie Fungi and they _DON'T_ wear masks at absolutely all times? oh. okay. guess it'd look pretty stupid, not being able to see their faces under the Hazmat suits. it _does_ call into question why Naughty Dog™ went ahead and included the whole inhalation bit, though. oh well!
Let’s also not forget that the sequel to blade runner DIDNT answer the replicant question. It still left the ambiguity to deckard. The question will always be there. Which is awesome
There is no ambiguity.....Deckard IS a replicant.
WHEN people say last of us great game , I will say yes it is a great game look good and love the gameplay but did you honestly buy the game for graphics? Gameplay? We all buy the game for story and yeah this is not cod or battelfilde that story is shit ok fine no problem I will play multiplayer but nah last of us not like that, people will say last of us was god tier game and took every single award but accept one the fan choice and well all know ghost of tsushima win it so yeah that's explain everything how much we loved niel dickman game.
You as an individual can’t make your own decisions or have your own morals. Wrong speech and wrong thought.
Ok, wait. I got everything else you said in the video, but Ellie didn't _just_ turn gay for the sequel. It was established in left behind, the extended DLC for the original. And besides, what does it matter to you? It's not an out-of-left-field kinda move, it's just, "yeah, I'm gay." Characters can show depth in sequels that they didn't originally show in the first story- it's not Out Of Character, if that was your point.
A very important detail is that the Firefly scientists were not certain that the lethal operation they wanted to perform on Ellie would actually produce a cure. In fact, it's quite likely that Ellie's condition was unique, or at least extremely rare, and not reproducible. The Fireflies were very desperate at that point, and willing to latch onto any possibility for a cure, no matter the cost; Joel did nothing wrong, and definitely nothing out of character (at least until the second game).
Hey guys! Did you know Ellie is gay? Yea! In a world of chaos and anarchy where humanity is struggling to hold on by their fingernails, the one ray of shining hope we have left is that one of the characters is gay! We're so lucky.....
Ellie was gay in the first game, but they rlly unnecessarily push it in the second one which doesn’t even matter because of the ending
The fact that the writer's of the shitty second game basically favour Ellie's viewpoint, completely disregarding and disapproving of anyone who understood and may have approved of Joel's actions and perspective in the first game, is fucking beyond me.
SNL is full of leftists and is PC. Remember the Ambiguously Gay Duo? Someone should pretend to be offended on Twitter. Burn out cancel culture by joining in on it and canceling them every chance you can
BTW I'm just here to remind u guys that Ellie is gay!
Joel looks an awful lot like Arthur Morgan
“Joel did NOTHING wrong” “NOTHING” “The importance of ambiguity” Cool story bro
@Monkey Kong Because Joel did nothing wrong, in his eyes, he was doing the right thing. The ambiguity comes from an outside perspective, whether what he did was correct or wrong as a while. It's all a matter of perspective.
@Bojack Horseman A morally ambiguous choice let’s you make arguments for why one way is more correct than the other. You can also make arguments for why you think the opposite. That doesn’t mean you’re correct. Saying Joel did NOTHING wrong contradicts that. If you think he did absolutely nothing wrong, and that you can’t make arguments for why he was wrong, you don’t care about ambiguity
@Bojack Horseman csworld.info/mem/video/iJudhmR8qJhxe2Y.html
The sequel very clearly saw Joel's actions as wrong, and in this video, drinker proposes the idea that he wasn't, and provides reasons and arguments as to why. The introduction of a different point of view you didn't initially recognize is the very definition of ambiguity.
The notion that such experiments to synthesize a cure would kill anyone is a bad movie trope that doesn't make sense and is a rather cheap way to construct the whole situation...assuming the writers didn't intend the Fireflies to be just insane...
That can very well be, but terrorists still wouldn't have to kill anyone to create a cure. You don't mince a person and make a salve... Only insane mad-scientist types would do that ^^
Well the first game was written by different, better, people who definitely played with the trope of expecting the player to see the Fireflies as your typical plucky on-the-ropes rebels instead of, y'know, literal terrorists. Many people *still* don't understand that the Fireflies were never good people.
Last of Us 2 didn’t paint Joel’s decision as if he were a bloodthirsty psychopath. It just showed that his decision had consequences, which it absolutely would if one were to doom the human race and kill a building full of people. They were going to kill Ellie for a cure, and he made the choice to save her as many parents would for their child. But just because its the right choice to make for himself and Ellie, it doesn’t mean there won’t be any repercussions for it. And even then, the game stresses that he would make the same decision all over again, because his surrogate daughter’s life was all that mattered to him. Regardless if he gets tortured and murdered for it. So if anything it stayed true to his character and doubled down on the first games ending imo.
@Leo Wei I personally dont think the execution of it was poor because the scene still hit pretty hard for me, but yeah there is an argument as to whether Joel and Tommy would’ve really revealed their names. Ultimately though I don’t think it’s a big enough stretch to consider it entirely implausible and ruin the game as a whole since Abby’s group were also giving out their names and showed no signs of hostility until they knew it was Joel. Also yeah, there could be repercussions for Abby if a former WLF/Seraphite member ever finds out where she is. In a world like this anything can come back to bite you in the ass.
Unfortunately, the execution for said repercussion was just poorly executed and setup. Like, they had so many ways to make it better but making Joel and Tommy be basically lemmings is just poor play. Besides, if we're talking about repercussion, I wonder if Abby would get hers after betraying the WLF and killing plenty of Seraphites.
precisely.
My ex was super allergic to nuts... every time it got in her eye she had a terrible reaction
I don't believe there was a 100% guarantee of a cure being possible from whatever they were gonna extract from Ellie and kill her. So the only guaranteed thing was that the only known immune person would be killed off and stopped from potentially spreading immunity through her children. That how I see it/understand it.
Shes gay? Because of course she is. Dont you know that gays out number straights by a wide margin now. Not only that but her gay lover has different colored skin! Wow Holy shit check another one off the list. FUCK off game
"Joel Did Nothing Wrong"- AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The twist i wanted in this game is, yes she can save humanity but only by having children...(TLOU1)
You forgot to mention that ellie is gay .
As far as i'm concerned, Joel did nothing wrong. And the last of us 2 fucking sucked
It's okay to like Joel.
Part II was a disaster. So anticipated and a huge flop.
Is it just me or does the Drinker sound sick in this one?
"Ellie is gay" Guess that rules out genetic immunity...
Honestly, this was a good game, but the end portion is the only part I distinctly remember.
Im one of the people who's guilty for this. I asked for a sequel for a game that doesn't need one. How i wished i could go back and forget that this sequel exists so i can still enjoy the 1st game.
Can you imagine the reaction if Nadine had killed Nathan in their fight and bashed his head with a golf club? Then you continue on to play as her? Lmao, people would fuckin blow up dude. I don't understand anyone who defended this game at all. Uncharted is all about Nathan, Elena, and Sully. Last of Us is all about Joel and Ellie. There is a reason why everyone was excited for the sequels. To continue the adventure with their beloved characters. Not to mention the false advertising, what a shitty move.
Best quote I‘ve heard was “tlou2 is like a fan fiction written by somebody who utterly hated the first game“
I find it kind of ridiculous that you praise ambiguity and then throw out that idea once you start talking about the sequel.
Ahhhh you had me halfway through then fell off when you started to sound like everyone else, just because the 1st game was ambiguous does not mean that the 2nd needs to do the same, executing things in different fashion does not necessarily mean it was done wrong or trashed away mate. Joel WAS a bad guy, he was never a good guy except at the very beginning WHEN he lost his daughter. Joel used to be a Hunter, you know those guys that are trying to kill you and a little girl throughout the majority of the game the dudes that try to take woman and kill the men and kids? Yeah, those bad guys. Joel was very much apart of that faction; the most ambiguous part was how you play the game in the 2nd perspective for the entirety of the game leaving players to believe that Joel was THE main character when he was 2nd to Ellie. Joel is the example of what can happen to someone good when they lose what means everything to them and THEN has a redemption arc when Ellie COMES into the picture. LOU1 was subliminally a 2nd Person Perspective Game something that hardly any company does and something that seems to fly directly over peoples heads. Joel had did a lot of wrong prior to meeting Ellie, not to mention the morally wrong things he did trying to save her. There were moments when you would kill NPCs and right before you murder them, they are literally talking about going back to being with their families and how they don't want any part of what their doing and then BAM! you kill 2 handfuls of "baddies" and because your just going through it; that banter means nothing to you when in reality JOELs legit murdering good and bad people throughout their entire journey in the 1st installment Ellie even asks Joel if he was with the Hunters to where he admits it IF you choose to continue the dialog with Ellie. Btw man, you simply stating that Ellie is Gay while showing a video of her kissing Dina from the 2nd title clearly shows how little info you actually gathered cause I am sure that her being Gay was something from the 1st game unless you completely overlooked it cause it bothered you that much mate 😁 that hard for people to swallow huh?Ellie being gay has nothing and I mean ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with it, it just means your arse didn't play the DLC for the 1st one. Lol They addressed everything perfectly in part 2 between Ellie and Joel if only you did a bit of listening while playing the first game and I do NOT mean just cinematics im talking about all the banter they have, hit all the dialog points and maybe you could have learned a little more about the lore of his story then you wouldn't have be so hurt about the loss of Joel. Lol I got bothered that he was taken out as well but you know what? I accepted it, cause he made a whole lot of bad/ questionable decsions that lead to the ultimate consequence. 😁 here I thought this video was gonna be one for the smart folks.. tsk tsk just another person mad about Joel not being Mr. Main MAN in part 2 😁
I spent the last months of my life in an almost Tyrannic way defending the last of us 2 as the best game ever made. Everybody who disagreed was stupid had low QI or did not understand the game. I didn't even want to listen to the other side... Because the other side was full of homophobic and haters... but these days I started to listening to some reasonable voice who didn't like the game and I started to get surprise how stupid wrong I was about TLOU2. Neil actually made us hate Ellie and Joel for the only purpose of loving Abby and his gay agenda. Denying all the facts from the first game specially what happened at the fireflies' hospital. Videos like this one make me open my eyes from this insanity. I fill ashamed of myself today.
Nut allergies are the result of dysgenics and a rejection of eugenics. People think literally everyone who can breed should breed. Nature rejects this idea out of hand. We will always lose against nature given enough time.
Great video mate ... Shout out from Canada eh
The last of us 2 is definitely a very flawed game, but I never got the sense that they were trying to condemn Joel’s actions at the end of the first game. And he justifies his actions at the end of tlou 2 in Ellie’s flashback; he tells her he would save her again if god gave him a second chance. I think that the drinker is confusing Abby’s perspective with the game’s perspective; Abby (a former firefly) understandably believed that Joel doomed humanity with his actions, but that doesn’t mean the writers also believed this.
Well, we know that the writers believed this because the specific phrasing "Joel doomed humanity" comes from Neil Druckmann himself.
Unpopular opinion, I enjoyed both games
Morality has to be based on an authority. Self cannot be the authority. 100% Deckard was not a replicant
Kill the girl ? (Section) 1. Whos to say people who kill the kid are gone save anyone ? 2. Whos to say its a lie and they "JUST" want to kill her and play with her blood 3. Whos to say they were not the ones who cause this ,and they want everyone to die . Or at the very least, monopolize the cure for a powergrab? a. ( Why dont i do that myself, if this technology is so free ? If its not ,and they already monopolize that ...Then thats a clue ) 4. Whos to say there aint others around somewhere ,who has this immunity ? -------------------- (Recap) a. What guarantees you have ,that anything you have been told was not somekind of lie / half truth ? b. What guarantees you have that your personal IQ is high enough to make this call ? ------------------------ Save millions ? ( Section ) 1. Whos to say ,that hey were not the ones who F.. all of this up at the begin with ,because failure to follow simple, easy to understand directories 2. Why do it right now ? Why not 80 years from now , when this ( person of interest ) is at her death bed ? After all century in earth history is just drop in the bucket ?? Ambiguity huh ?
Love your content. One thing I think you missed. Joule in his journey, decided that the world isn't even worth saving compared to Ellie. It was filled with assholes...lol
Today's generation literally has no imagination with the internet as a big cause, everything is show, explained and instant gratification...they don't know how to think or make a decision without being told that decision
*Revenge is bad.* BUT, killing hundreds of people on your way to get your revenge is absolutely acceptable. As long as you don't get your revenge. *credit rolls*
Last of us 2 was unnecessary, even going as far as to un-do the first one.
I personally disagree. I don't think Joel's actions were retconned into "the actions of a bloodthirsty psychopath". If that were true, I don't think they would bother including all of those moments of tenderness and love he shows for Ellie (playing her the song, teaching her guitar, the entire sequence of her birthday party at the museum, following her to the hospital and obviously being worried for her well being, clearly trying not to cry at both the hospital and ending scenes, standing up to the homophobe, and telling Ellie her life matters by saying he would save her all over again). If he were "just a bloodthirsty psychopath" and we were supposed to hate him, they wouldn't have shown how deep Ellie's grief and guilt runs for him when he's killed. Why do you think he's suddenly retconned?
Haha. You said 'unrinalysis'.
*"Diverse female space Jesus came along to fix everything and save the universe."* Rey bypassed the compressor ( ಠ‿ಠ)
So you wanna explain the ending of last of us 2 because that shit ambiguous as fuck
EVERYONE hating on this game just cant look past Joel's death. This world is fucking cruel and though i loved joel, humanity for ellie? i love her but whats right its right. just like EVERY OTHER character in this fucked up story. First game was a masterpiece, second? nothing shorter than that. The second game had me feeling things no videogame has ever made me feel.
"The world is cruel" Abby gets to live in a colony with infinite resources and manpower, sycophantic followers, a universe that loves her so much that anyone who opposes her (however slightly) is punished severely (often killed), is given carte blanche to go on revenge quests with people from another civilization without punishment from either her strict military hierarchy *or* the civilization itself, a ripoff of Atreus, effectively the power to psychically overwhelm her opponent with grief at the very end of the game, and in the end she gets to live on a magic fairytale island of people that will accept her and protect her from the aforementioned infinite resource colony that she betrayed and is implied to have eradicated the well-stocked vestiges of the US Government. "The world is cruel" to everyone *except* Abby.
it made me fall in love with the character that murdered my character
There’s zero moral ambiguity here tbh. The second you put even the slightest bit of thought into the logistical issues of a cure, even assuming they had a 100% chance of success at creating one in the first place; and there’s pretty much no question that Joel made the right decision.
If you can be taken out by a legume, your DNA should not be allowed to replicate.
I promised myself I wouldnt watch any more TLOU2 videos, but...
Just finished The Last Of Us 2. Never again.
Awful, isn't it?
I also love that people over look that you can find notes and writings that shows that ellie isn't the first one they found more like the 12th and they killed the other 11 without getting any closer to a cure so there's a high probability that it wouldn't work and she'd die for nothing
Y'all are bullshittingggg last of us 2 was gooddddd
Never got to play the second game is it really a libtard shit show?
Well, Ellie calls someone a “bigot”, in a world 25+ years after complete societal collapse. As if terminology like that is still a thing. Apparently, Twitter survived the apocalypse.
Vaccines suck tho.
Ahhhh yes. A perfect game with a garbage sequel
It's funny how the second TLoU game has largely been forgotten about.
Can we also talk about the fact that the Fireflies' first reaction to cut up this literal child who was (Probably) the only person immune like a Christmas goose was........dumb? That they should have, oh I don't know, done some Blood Tests or some shit first, potentially noteworthy in that Joel probably wouldn't have objected to that. And then tried to do a Brain Biopsy which actually doesn't have a particularly high rate of death and this would have let them collect a sample. Also explainable to Joel. Also the fact that I don't think there's a single vaccine for any type of Viral Infection (Key word think, I don't know for certain.) so the Fireflies goal of making a vaccine was probably doomed from the start (Unlike the previous idea, where you could theoretically cultivate the benign strain that makes you immune, which the Brain Biopsy could provide and if ABSOLUTELY needed, could be done again, so you could harvest the Friendly Strain, INFECT EVERYONE WITH IT, and BAM possible immunity to fungus boy bites or spores. Hell the Blood Sample might have provided enough to start with which might even negate the need for the Biopsy.). But since the former plan had a basically 0% chance of failure, and the Fireflies didn't even contemplate the latter idea, Joel may very well have done NOTHING wrong, other than MAYBE being a bit murder happy in saving Ellie.
@crazyinsane500 So what you're saying is.........Joel did nothing wrong?
Well here's how we know that the second game was written by someone else: Because the first is loaded with so many unexplained things that do have explanations. In this case, if their plan was to do a procedure that would've killed Ellie but yielded a cure, they could've just told FEDRA about Ellie and let them actually get the cure. They have the means to distribute it the same that they have the means to distribute rations. The reason they didn't is implicit in what we see about the Fireflies, they are affable and people believe them at face value but effectively they're full of incompetent idiots who die in droves and have no long-term goals besides getting one over on FEDRA. Killing the only person who could yield something to help end the plague and using the *only* sample gathered from them as political leverage is something more in line with their ideals than working on a cure itself.
I’m glad I didn’t, and will not, pollute my memory of the ending of the first game, by playing the second.
You're honestly not missing out much. The 2nd game is stunning in the graphics department and has great gameplay, but storywise it's pretty bad:P Though I do recommend at least watching a youtube video on the museum sequence of the game, because it's a flashback to maybe a year after the 1st game ends and actually has a lot of great interactions between Joel and Ellie.
Your videos are often a reminder of how people in positions of power sometimes should not be in those positions, while others who should be in those positions, aren't. And the outcome of that is what makes the world a worse off place.
I need a hero to tell me the names of all the movies he showed in the last 34 seconds, starting with A New Hope.
Joel did nothing wrong by prioritizing the only person he was responsible for other those he was NOT responsible for. Thats not even going as far as saying "ah screw everyone else." They are responsible for themselves to not kill themselves with bad planning or foolish endeavors.
Killing the father figure has become so fetishized in the last years that it's the center of the vast majority of stories to portray any leading, father figure character to be ultimately vilified and destroyed in one permanent way or another.
The demand of the sequel is, kill the father figure, kill the father figure, KILL THE FATHER FIGURE. It's the progressive thing to do, betray him kill him, it's better this way.
So five your OWN LIFE not someone else's. One is charity, Love, the other is greed, murder, stealing of the most underhanded, backstabbing, traitorous order.
It might have not been his choice whether she should live or not, but it wasn’t anyone else’s choice whether she should sacrifice herself for a cure that isn’t even 100 percent full proof
Stick to movies Drinker, because just like with your "A beautiful Nightmare" video, you've completely missed the mark again. Yes "ambiguity" is great when done well, but there was never any "ambiguity" about the first games ending, it was pretty clear to any rational, sensible person that, despite how they may have felt about him or sympathized with his choice, what Joel did at the hospital was objectively wrong. It's not Neal's fault that a bunch of deranged young men desperately seeking out a father figure in a video game of all places decided to latch onto this character, and project whatever emotional turmoil they were going through onto him and his status in the second game. Isn't it sad that we've reached a point in which the individuals wronged by this man, having directly lost innocent friends and family because of him (alongside a somewhat "good" institution in a broken down world), need to be portrayed as the bad guys. Just so people like you can maintain your little "Joel Did Nothing Wrong" fantasy. It would be laughable if it weren't so utterly sad and desperate. This whole video was basically one long drawn out "not my Joel!", -so well done to you on adding yet another layer to the already pathetic pile of garbage that is the online critic of this game. The game had plenty of moments of subtle ambiguity, which were missed/wasted on people skimming through the game with their minds already made up following the leaks. Btw Ellie was already established as being gay in the DLC, so its not exactly anything new.. or you know, an "agenda".. but as always its good to see your bigotry out in full sight, under the guise of "anti-woke culture." Her being gay isn't shoved in your face anymore than Abby being straight, but alas people like you will be triggered at the mere fact that a gay character is in the game. It's 2021 drinker, not 1921.. you can't hate a character/game because it dared to have a none straight, white male character. All in all another fail of a video which is sure to be a hit with the rest of the triggered father issue having simpletons who boiled the main themes of the game down to "revenge bad".. seems plenty of people besides the actual reviewers and awards critics liked the game, but don't let that stop your little circle jerk here. Apparently in 2020 we've reached such a state of entitlement in the west, that we now hate on games/studios because we ourselves as the audience were too shallow, stupid or outright emotionally triggered to understand the narrative. If only they'd done another simple road trip story heyy (with no gay characters of course), instead of trying to do something never seen or experienced before.. notes for Neal next time, keep it simple, because you're dealing with some very simple people.
TL;DR: "You're stupid and Joel was wrong!" Not even joking. The entirety of this tirade is *just* an ad-hominem with no explanation of how Joel is wrong.
I personally always leaned in Joel's favour because iirc the game said they might be able to make the cure, it wasn't guaranteed. It was a possibility, not a certainty, and the risk isn't worth it imo. (on a side note, it wouldn't worked anyway, they were looking in the wrong place. To make a vaccine you either need a sample of the pathogen (since they can easily get those from any infected, I'll assume they tried that and it didn't work) or antibodies. They should've been taking blood and bone-marrow samples from her, which would at worst cost her a limb if they didn't have all the necessary equipment. But since the devs probably didn't know that, meaning it wasn't intended to inform your opinion, I try to ignore it when making this decision, not that I can do so enirely, I'm only human)
And some time,s cigar is just a cigar :)
Life is not like a multiple choice test you take in school where there is one correct answer. Pick your best bet and leave it to fate.
Two things: 1) Ellie didn't consent to this procedure, at least to our knowledge, and we the players aren't given a choice in the final confrontation. And 2) show me one good, responsible parent that wouldn't do exactly what Joel did to save their child. I don't think you can. I know that if I had kids, I'd likely make the same decision. Which is exactly why the ending is so good. It's complex and lets the players form their own conclusions. I still haven't played the sequel, but I've watched so many the play-throughs and I'm confident in the fact that I don't want to
yeah you wouldn't want to waste your time with that tlou2 garbage .
They started using peanut oil as a binder medium in vaccines and it provoked life threatening allergic immune responses to peanuts in children who received the vaccines. That’s why so many people have peanut allergies nowadays.
Thank you, Drinker. As usual, you get it. Keep doing what you do, because you're doing something good.
